Darryl “Choo” Kennedy played on two of the winningest teams in Oklahoma basketball history. The 1983-84 and 1984-85 Sooner teams won 29 and 31 games, respectively. The combined record of the OU basketball teams when Kennedy played in the mid-1980s was 110-30 and 43-13 in Big Eight play. The Sooners won two Big Eight championship while Kennedy was playing.
Kennedy, an Oklahoma City-native, had the fortune or misfortune of playing at the same time as Oklahoma’s all-time leading scorer and three-time consensus All-American Wayman Tisdale. Nevertheless, Kennedy managed to get his points, and he ranks fourth on the all-time Sooner scoring list with 2,097 total points and a 15.3 scoring average over four seasons, and he is second all-time in rebounds with 954.
