Dr. Carl James has been teaching at York University, in the Faculty of Education since 1993. He is also cross-appointed to the Graduate Program in Sociology and Social Work. A full Professor since 2003, he is currently the Director of York centre for Education and Community. Prior to this,  Dr. James was the Director of the Graduate Program in Sociology. He has also been the Visiting Course Director, Department of Teacher Training at the University of Uppsala in Sweden since 1997.
